The Podiatrist...
The Podiatrist does not specialize in a body system but rather an anatomical area. What must be understood is that anatomical areas have a multitude of body systems within them. In fact, the anatomical area of the foot contains many components involving different body systems.
Since there are multiple body systems involved with the anatomical area of the lower extremity, the Podiatrist must be the expert in multiple involved specialties, as opposed to other medical specialists.
- An average active person walks over 4 miles per day – That is 120,000 miles in a lifetime or 4 times worldwide.
- The feet contain over 25% of the bones in the entire body.
- Both feet contain 56 bones, over 80 muscles, 208 ligaments, and numerous tendons. A podiatrist is an Orthopedic expert on the lower extremity.
- There are about 30 joints in each foot requiring the Podiatrist to be an expert in Rheumatology and Biomechanics of the lower extremity.
- There are dozens of nerves and nerve branches in the foot; thus, the DPM must be an expert in Neurology.
- There are countless arteries and veins in each foot which account for the Vascular expertise of the DPM.
- There is also skin, similar to the rest of the body, so the DPM must be an expert in Dermatology.
- The DPM is also a trained expert in lower extremity Infectious Diseases.
- The DPM is also highly trained in Internal Medicine and relates specific conditions to the lower extremity.
- The DPM is also an expert in the Radiology of the lower extremity.
- The DPM is the absolute expert in foot Surgery.

I have to say that I have been to many doctors previously. Dr. Levine is absolutely the most knowledgeable with a friendly courteous staff. I wish I could have him as my primary care physician and take over anything I ever need. I wish I had more reasons to see him other than when he fixed my broken foot.
I read a previous comment on this review board and saw that someone was complaining that when they were transferring from another doctor they had to bring records. I had to do the same thing. I had previously gone to an orthopedic doctor for the same fracture in my foot. When Dr. Levine reviewed the records, he noticed something had been previously missed. Now I can run again. I am glad he was so thorough.
Thank you Dr. Levine

This is a remarkable medical office. From the first contact, the staff is friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Then the visit with Dr Levine was on time and very helpful. He takes time. He explains various options. He gives advice that is best for the patient and not necessarily that which makes the most money for him. This was a comfortable, very helpful experience. Thank you Dr Levine.
